Spam subscribers??
« on: Jul 18, 2015 @ 10:23 PM »
I've read a lot of posts and I see that comment spam is a big headache in the blogging community but does any one get spam subscribers? When I look at the the email addresses of my registered users, the email addresses are crazy and long to the point that they no longer make out words and EVERYONE  of them are @yahoo.com. Not to say anything is wrong with yahoo, its just a weird coincidence. I'm just looking for confirmation that these are indeed spammers before I delete them.

Any of your forms will be subject to spammers. Comments, subscribers, contacts, etc.

Are you able to get bounced email message reports for your subscribers? I've found that's a great way to remove any emails that have snuck through my traditional anti-spam measures. If it's returned... it's removed.

Depending on the system you are using for subscribers, make sure you enable or add spam prevention if you can. Captcha is a pain but a necessary evil sometimes.

as for spammers on your blog... there are many good plugins that you can use:

Akismet
cookies for comments
etc...

as for my email list, i do a 'wash' every three months.

I use aweber. I go to the "subscribers" page

then i select "no opens"

then i select "since"

then i select "30 days ago"

then i add a section with the "+" button

then i select "date added"

then i select "date is before"

then i select the same date i put in the first form, i hit search and i now have a complete list of subscribers that don't open emails..

i delete them right quick.

hope that helps,
Ike
