Help Me Make this like a Neon Scrapbook?
« on: Jul 09, 2016 @ 09:00 PM »
Hi,

My blog is fairly new and encompasses parenthood, life as a curvy/fluffy woman, being a veiled Christian, and lots and lots of art journaling, scrapbooking, and abstract art. How can I make the site more like a scrapbook? How can I make it more visually appealing and still keep lots of bright colors? What could I do to improve it so that people would want to comment more? Who might the blog appeal to? How can I keep it ultra personal looking while making it a bit more glamorous?

Thank you!

The site looks good. I don't think it is too cluttered or anything. My biggest issue is with a small portion of the bright green links on the upper left hand side. With the bright yellow from the theme it is a little hard to see part of your archives. I would go for a theme that doesn't put a design through the writing like that but instead travels down the sides of your site. You can see kind of what I am talking about here on TMB. You see how the sides are brown, but it doesn't come over into the ads and posts in the middle? At the same time it doesn't stop after the first part of the blog either. I think that would help you keep the neon alive throughout your site, but not interfere with your posts.

As for encouraging people to comment that will come with time. Also, after reading one of your posts (Parenting is a Dream), it seems as if your blog is more of a personal account. There is nothing wrong with that, but the post itself doesn't make the reader want to comment. If you want comments you could always ask a question at the end of the post. For example, with your craft posts, you could ask them to share a photo of their attempt at your craft, you could ask what they are working on, or what they would like to be able to do if they are not a crafty person. Encouraging your readers to comment is the hard part, you have to make them want to talk to you or they simply won't, they will read the post and move on.

Just as another side note, I would set up some social media for your site, even if it's just a Twitter and Facebook, or just a pinterest since you do a lot of crafts, so people can follow you there. That is where a lot of blog traffic comes from.

I share a lot of blogging tips on my site if you want to check it out some time or have more questions(my link is in my signature below). I am always willing to help others whenever possible!

Thank you. I will try to find a theme that doesn't go under the links and only operates on the sides. I'm hoping I can find a free one like that through Blogger! I want people to be able to read everything!

I will try asking questions to engage readers. My blog is largely a personal account, but I really do want to connect with people.

I post my stuff to a personal facebook, but beyond that I don't do anything. It sounds like I should try twitter. I did just open up an Instagram account for my blog, but no traffic so far....though I'm gaining some wonderful followers!

Thank you so much for your advice! I'll check out your site :)

You are welcome! It takes time, so don't get discouraged. I think I was blogging for 6 months, consistently, before I started getting regular traffic and comments. And even after over a year, I don't get too many comments from new readers, mostly just some loyal followers I have. There is nothing wrong with having a personal blog, but if you want to connect with others you have to make it relate to them.

Good luck!

Thank you! I'm thinking about taking it over to Weebly to have more interesting options and plugins. I want the site to feel   a little electric, and a little homey!
