Am I doing this right? What can I improve?
« on: Mar 01, 2016 @ 02:41 PM »
Hi guys,

I started blogging about 6 weeks ago. It was going pretty good, I started getting followers on my Facebook page, some comments on my posts. Lately it seems to have fizzled. Any advice about my page, posts, layout or what to do next would be so appreciated!

My goal is to have a site people go to for recipes, crafts or party ideas. I so far have mostly recipes, I am working on crafts for each Holiday that comes up. Next will be St Patty's Day.

Here is a link to my blog: www.craftythoughtsfromafoodiemom.net

Here is a link to my Facebook page www.facebook.com/jillscraftythoughtsfromafoodiemom

Thanks so much! I look forward to any thoughts.

Jill Marie

cool blog.

love the posts.

some tips:

1) why not start a "like" campaign on facebook. You can cap your ad spend at 5 dollars a day. So how it goes and split test images/

2) you should have a freebie ebook or report and start collecting an email list and build a relationship with your audience that way

3) get more traffic via youtube. why not have a dedicated YT channel to go a long your site.

4) tailor your content around how your audience searchers, use google keyword planner for this, its free!

if you have any questions, please let me know.

I'm no expert at all, so take this with a grain of salt. But I think there's too much empty white space at the top of the site. It makes it feel like there won't be much there. Also, the sidebar with your different specialization areas is very small and doesn't attract a lot of attention. If you want to do this as a business, you need to keep people on your page as long as possible!

Overall though, it was a nice, likable site. It is very clean. It just feels too..sparse. But I tend to clutter, so maybe that is just me!

Looking at your site I think it looks great. I like the clean look of the site and the posts are great. A few things that I noticed though:

1. You only have social media as a way of following your blog. Facebook posts do not alway show up in a feed and pinterest and twitter posts are only seen if the reader happens to be on right when you post or shortly after you post. I suggest giving your readers a way to sign up for email updates then you can send an email either with every post or once a week/month. This way your readers can find you again because it may just be that they have liked you on FB but your posts are not showing up for them.

2. I notice that you don't really post consistently. Looking at the dates you posted 2 posts in 4 days once, and the time before that was 22 days between posts. If your readers don't know when you are posting it is hard for them to come back to read your blog. There are so many duds out there that just post a few times then don't update, people may come to your site and see a post from 3 weeks ago and think you are no longer blogging. I suggest setting a schedule and sticking to it, even if it is just a post a week or every 2 weeks, that way your readers know when to expect something from you.

3. Give it some time! It looks like you just started your blog the beginning of the year. It can take a long time to get consistent traffic to your site. Sometimes a year or more with consistent blogging.

I share a lot of blogging tips on my site if you want to check them out or have any questions (link to my site is in the signature).
