Blogging Tips N tricks => How Do You Mommy Blog? => Topic started by: ThisMessyMama on Sep 14, 2015 @ 07:26 PM
I have 2 little ones (25 months, 5 months) at home... all the time (no daycare/school/baby sitters/grandparents in town/etc). I am trying so hard to grow my blog following but I'm STRUGGLING! How do you prioritize? I currently try to post at least 2 times/week (Mon and Thurs) or 3 times/week (Mon, Wed, Fri). However, by the time I get the posts put together, edit pics, etc I have no time leftover for promo. How do you promo? Do you target Social Media (if so what do you hit and how often) or blogger groups/forums/etc?
And when do you bring advertisers/sponsorships in? I would love for this to be a career option for me... at least for the next 3-4 years... but I am at a loss as to getting advertisers and sponsors. Maybe I'm a little late to the blogging game but I feel like I need to get my numbers up. I have applied for sponsored posts with Sverve, Brandbacker, and iSway but (as of yet) have not been contacted. Are there magic numbers I should try to reach?
And and all help is welcomed and appreciated. I will be sure to return love to you via your blog!!!
I checked out your blog, it's great. Soon I'll have two little girls too, I'm due with my second in February.
I use Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest a lot of push my content. I also post in Facebook groups to promote my posts.
I wake up with my husband at 5:30 am in the morning, which gives me two hours of good working time before my toddler wakes up.

I see your traffic has gone up recently, what have you done differently? :)
Hugs from one mommy blogger to another,
Your blog looks great! That is a start.
I want to start with the advertisements. I use ShareASale and SkimLinks, which are affiliate links. I haven't made much yet (about $10), but I know a lot of others have had a lot of success with affiliate sales. I try to stay away from 3rd party sites because they take a portion of your payment, and often are limited in how much you can make. Also, you are in a pool of thousands of bloggers and they have to sift through them to get to you. Since you are new to those sites it will be harder for them to reach you. I would make a media kit and reach out to the companies you want to advertise for, you don't just want to advertise anything.
The prioritizing is the part that I struggled with as well with my first blog. I have an 18 month old and work full time from home. I know how busy it can get, but you can do it! First off, take advantage of the scheduling tools. I post daily, and I use the scheduling tool to make sure that my posts go live, even if I can't get to my computer. Currently I am about a week ahead of schedule, this keeps me prepared in case my little one gets sick.
For social media, take advantage of the fact that Wordpress (if that is what you use, and I am sure others will as well) will post to social media for you automatically once your post is live. I also use buffer to schedule posts to my twitter. Automating the posting is a huge help and frees up a lot of time for me to work on other things.
How I make sure I can get posts written on time, I take advantage of the times my daughter is asleep or when my husband is home and he can entertain. My daughter is also very independent and I work from my couch in my living room where I can keep an eye on her. I get most of my work done before she wakes up, during nap time, and after she goes to bed at night.
I hope that helps. Good luck!
Hi, I don't have any expert advice as I am really new to this but I wanted to say that I have just been reading your blog and I really enjoyed it! Its pleasing on the eye so automatically I wanted to read more and I really liked the variety of subjects. When I did a home study course and I had 3 littlies at home, I used to getup half an hour early and use that time or the time when they went to bed or nap time. Even when they were playing happily..even for 5 minutes..i used to just make notes etc...
I hope you manage to achieve what you want out of your blog and I am sure you will..if you haven't already :) xx
I truly believe that it's a mixture between prioritizing and finding the right channels to utilize what little spare/free time you have left to promote your blog.
Posting 2 or 3 times a week is great schedule. Especially for a mommy with 2 young ones! Props to you for juggling so much :D
You'll notice that as time goes on you'll get quicker at writing posts, editing pictures, posting to social media channels, etc. It takes times but that process will speed up--it does for everyone.
When it comes to promoting your blog there are many channels and ways you can choose to do so. Many of the popular techniques include promoting on Facebook by sponsored posts or boosting posts, targeting similar twitter users on Twitters advertising platform for more likes, Pinning to boards on Pinterest, etc.
You can also create Google Ads, Bing Ads, display and retargeting ads but this is a bit more technical and advanced and typically not for your average blogger.
Over the years I've seen a lot of success when I blogged and with current customers of mine at Mommy Host who create content that adds value to the reader's life. With a smaller reader base if you can create content (tips on how to blog more effectively, ways to how to optimize your blog, offering a free guide on how to start a blog, etc) then your current readership may help you in promoting your blog by sharing your content across social media channels for you.
This helps you save time where you don't have to focus so much in trying to promote your own stuff during your spare time.
Additionally, you can reach out to other mommies and ask if they'd like to share your post or if you can guest post on a particular topic to get visibility to their reader base.
It all takes time and patience.
