A Blog of Her Own
« on: Feb 22, 2011 @ 06:01 PM »
My young teen daughter struggles with self esteem, and forming her own identity in a sea of pressuring peers.  So her therapist and I came up with the idea of creating a blog for her, to show off her talents.  She is a talented writer of poetry and short stories.  Did I say TALENTED?  Good, I meant it!  She's also quite the cartoonish artist.  Her blog is private, only available to invited family members (to keep the not so supportive peers out).

It's new, but it's working already.  She's just getting to the point of being able to admit that she really may have some sort of skill, and feeling proud of herself!

Your daughter  might like -- and be inspired by-- Tavi Gevinson who writes Tavi's focus is fashion and not writing, but she's done an awful lot and hasn't let her age or her peers' opinions of her stop her.

That's great. I couldn't imagine being a teen these days. It's nice to hear how technology can be used as a tool to help cope!

That sounds good, although she is struggling with the pressure from peers still she ables to compensate it in making good writings. I believe she will eventually overcome it someday. Things like that are quite normal especially for teens. High school years are very competitive, and where your teenager stands on the popular scale with the rest of his or her peers is very important.

Being in a teen boarding school will also help teens to achieve self-esteem and personality changes that will lead them to a success life.
