Kids and Social Media
« on: Sep 30, 2014 @ 05:39 PM »
Ok, so we all have our opinions on kids and social media. I have a 10 yr old little girl who has asked to have her own Instagram. We have NOT let her. My husband and I just feel we need to protect their innocence for as long as we can. The internet isn't a place for 10yr olds. I looked into Instagram thinking maybe we could let her if everything was private, but it actually says in Instagram that it not for kids 13 yrs and younger. Now, I do believe it sometimes depends on the kid. Some kids are more mature then others. My daughter is very mature for her age, but we still don't think she needs social media. Sometimes I feel bad for her cause I know some of her friends are on Instagram, but I do stick to my guns. I know kids get older, but I just wish we could keep them in a bubble, lol. So, what's everyone's thoughts about this?

Kudos to you! Social media and technology may be non-negotiable these days but I really think imposing restrictions is still important. Kids are vulnerable when exposed and as parents, it is our responsibility to protect them and keep them safe.
