Podcasting
« on: Aug 27, 2014 @ 06:58 AM »
Does anyone here podcast? I'm meeting with a local company I stumbled upon who runs a fairly large podcasting operation that gets about a half million downloads per month. I'm just curious what your challenges were, what your experience was with the company, what the costs were and things of that nature. I'm hoping we can be partners and split any revenue from advertising and they won't try to charge me anything up front.

Just curious.

So, I met with 2GuysTalking, who just happen to be in the same town I'm in (literally, 10 minutes from my house), and it looks like I'm going to spin my blog into a daddy-focused podcast! We're still working on the details, but it looks like this is going to happen. If anyone knows of any companies who would be interested in sponsoring a humorous podcast that loosely revolves around dad life, please let me know. I'll add details to this thread, but I was excited, lol.

First podcast recorded last night. Felt awesome to be back in a studio. Will let you guys know when it makes it up to iTunes. Right now it's just going to be me reading through my posts, but I'd like for it to evolve into something where I bring in other parent bloggers to talk about themselves and their blogs, and share some of their stories.

That's really exciting! Please keep us posted and share your thoughts. I've personally never done a podcast so it's  exciting to hear the process from someone new to it.

Hi Karen,

It should be up in the not-too-distant future. The first one is just going to be me reading through one of my posts. We want to get that out there and figured out what that should look like. After I get one more basic one out the door, I'd like to change the format to where the first part is me reading through my posts, and in the second part I bring on another parent blogger to discuss their blog and share some of their parenting stories. The hope is that even though we don't know each other, we can use the story I just told as a jumping off point.

I'll definitely let everyone know when the first one is available, lol. I'm pumped. This is something I've wanted to do for a while, and I just dummied into a great company to do it with.

I am actually trying to start a podcast for my blog I'd be really interested in hearing thoughts on how to start up and what programs you used to get it to iTunes and such. I think I have all of the minimal equipment I just need like a program I guess.....

thoughts?

Hi DWalston!

I've only wandered so far down the rabbit hole myself, and I'm actually working with a local podcasting company to put mine together. I recorded a few test episodes a month or so ago, and we're going to start digging back into it next week. We've got a long-term vision for this that we want to drive.

That being said, I've got a background in radio and the equipment that I would need at home to capture a podcast, which requires nothing more than a good microphone to plug into your computer and Audacity. If I were going to do it on my own, I'd use Feedburner. Feedburner can feed the podcast from your blog out to various sites that capture podcasts and also iTunes; it actually has some specific fields you need to fill in so it can feed your podcast to iTunes. There are a lot of great articles on the Web, but Podcasting News has a great collection of articles about how to start podcasting that make a great place to start: http://www.podcastingnews.com/content/category/podcasting/how-to-podcast/

I hope that helps. Sorry for the late response. I haven't come around these parts in a while. You can always reach me through my blog and the links below.

Now, I'm gonna go check out your site :-)

Best,

Travis
