HELP!
« on: Apr 10, 2013 @ 02:43 PM »
I need some major help. I currently have my blog set up on "blog.com."  I have been having major issues for about a month now. Days go by that I can't access my blog or even my admin. page. I've submitted support requests and no one gets back to me.

Does anyone out there know if there's any way I can transfer my blog to a different platform without having to change my web address or lose anything I've already written??

It looks like it's up and running OK (super late reply though).

You can always keep your domain, since you're using a registered domain name, but I don't see a lot of support or tools for importing/moving blog.com blogs. My advice would be to keep regular backups and since blog.com looks like it's working for you, maybe slowly move (manually if there is no other way) to another platform. Then when you've got everything moved to Wordpress, Blogger or whatever platform you choose, update your domain name to point to the new blog.

Moving platforms is never easy. Even if there is an import tool, it's still work.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for your follow-up. I appreciate any help I can get. I've been talking to some computer friends and they said the same as you. I think it would be best to just start slowly moving things over to a new platform.

My only question, though, is will my actual domain name ever have to change from moving platforms? Can I continue to keep the web address I've established even though I may move to Wordpress or Blogger, etc.

If it's a domain you paid for, like through godaddy.com or another name register than yes. For example I could point TopMommyBlogs.Com to any thing else I wanted. You'll just log into your domain registrar and point the domain to your new blog address.

What wouldn't change is if it's a subdomain, for example: myblog.blogspot.com.
