My mommy time...Morning cup of coffee & blog post
« on: May 03, 2014 @ 10:44 PM »
Is it horrible that I wake up with my daughters early, and I let them watch one episode of a show while I have my cup of coffee and  re-read and tweak the post I wrote the night before then post it? My girls are learning a lot of interesting facts from Wild Kratz ;) What do you do to set aside time?

Hey, it's either let them watch some educational TV or lock yourself in the bathroom with the laptop in hand. I say the cup of coffee and the TV program is a much safer option!

My middle child once came to me at age 2 (Yes, 2) and said, "Mommy! Did you know that "Twinkle, Twinkle", "Baa Baa, Black Sheep" and the "ABC Song" were all the same song? (I confess my night owl brain had to gulp some more coffee and sing the first lines of all 3 before I realized she was right.) She wouldn't have known that fact if she hadn't watched some TV. And that young lady went on to be a choreographer/officer for a drill team in high school, performed recitals in the same location as the beginning site for the Van Cliburn piano competition and played one mean saxophone. That, coupled with good academics, allowed her to get a full ride for her master's at TCU.

You never know where that education they're getting from TV programs is going to take them!

Not horrible at all! I try to get everything done during nap time or after my toddler goes to bed, but it's not always possible with all the other mom-duties, so she gets to watch Sesame Street or Dora while Mommy gets her "work" done. She's happy, I'm happy, Dad's happy because Mom's not a stress-ball...all around win!

I think there is always going to be a moment of guilt. However, the children need to know your time and their time :)
It's only fair ;)

I think it's important to balance time with our kids and time for ourselves.  Sometimes that means getting a babysitter for a few hours or in your case using the tv as a distraction for an hour.  There is nothing wrong with it at all.  Our kids have to see that what we value is important too.
