I think the best way to get links to your blog is to comment on other blogs! Most, if not all, ask for your website and add that link to your name when you comment, so share your opinion! You might even find some great blogs you love!  :)

I would suggest the following methods of getting "dofollow" backlinks.

1.   Link exchanges with other Mommy Bloggers
2.  Create a profile on Google+, Youtube and Pinterest and put your blog link in the profile.  All three have dofollow links on the profile.
3.  Post in forums that allow you to showcase a blog post.  Many blog oriented forums, have a "sharing forum thread" for sharing your latest post.
4.  Post all your blogposts at www.kumbuya.com in specific "camps" about your topic.  They allow dofollow links and the Camps are textually relevant if you pick wisely.
5.  Make sure to register your blog at www.Technorati.com.  You get a link plus you can get traffic if it gets popular.
6.  Submit your stories to Digg.  If they get picked up there (rare, but possible), they will get lots of traffic.
7.  Comment into high traffic blogposts that are very relevant to your topic.  Do a google search on the topic to find the most popular blogposts about that topic.

Google is changing its algorithm quite frequently.
Tips to blogger moms, whatever link building tactics you choose, natural link building is best.
Content is king. Write good and helpful article which will help readers.

Another way to get links is to do link research. For example, use tools like Majestic.com, Ahrefs.com, Open Site Explorer, to research competitors' site links. Then, see if there are any trusted links that you can get.

Focus on the getting more trusted, authoritative type links rather than just commenting on blog posts.  And, it's important to make sure that you have a good cross-section of links (not just one type of link) so it appears more natural to the search engines. For example, "do follow" links are good, but it's also good to have "nofollow" links as well.

Now, we're getting to the point where good content can rank well in the search results without a lot of links, but your site still needs to be trusted.

I agree with all of the tips above! Being active with other bloggers will really help to build your network and get those backlinks.
I also like participating in link parties. It's a great way to get backlinks and meet other bloggers.

I have a list of some of the ones that I like here: http://www.mommyhomemanager.com/use-link-parties-promote-blog/

Well, I have a little experience and i think you can rely on my advice.

The first thing is get a domain name and make a blog i n your own hosting and on your own domain name.  creating backlinks is a hard nut to crack.
I would create links for my own domain name rather than donating all my efforts to blogspot or wordpress.
Your site is an asset and its your personal while blog is a third party subdomain .blogspot.com or etc
The best thing is you get better value of your links when you have a DOMAIN rather than a SUB DOMAIN.

There are MANY ways of getting links for your blog.
comment on other blogs
send social signals to your blog
share it on bookmarking sites
exchange links with fellow bloggers
whereever you create a profile on any website consider adding your website in your profile information.

The best way to get links to your blog is "Broken Link Building".
Start finding blog post related to your topic and ask the author to give a link to your site as the previous link was broken. Thus you can gain backlinks.
Second method: Do guest posting on related category site.

Best of Luck.
