From Blogspot to .com--Resolved
« on: Apr 06, 2014 @ 09:30 PM »
I created my blog in blogger and then bought a domain name from GoDaddy. I had a hard time syncing the two. Finally, GoDaddy called me at home and got me all set up on their end. But I'm still having problems. In my Blogger settings, it won't accept the new domain name. I've tried seeking online help from the company but have received no response. And I can't find a number to call. Anyone else had a similar experience? What did you do to resolve the issue?

Are you starting your domain name with www?

Usually, with URLS, it's just a matter of formatting. A properly formatted URL starts with http:// but maybe not the case here.

I was looking through the trouble shooter for blogger and it looks like after you enter your www.blog.com you're supposed to get an error then go get the CNAME from your DNS.

There are step by step instructions here if you haven't seen it:
https://support.google.com/blogger/troubleshooter/1233381?hl=en#ts=1734115

If that helps, make sure to add {solved} to the topic title. Otherwise let's hope for answers. Looking through Google it seems to be a common problem- several blog posts about how to do it w/comments about it not working.  Sorry, that's slowing you down- it should be an easy and  fun change! Oh and don't forget it can take up to 72 hours to see DNS changes too.

I was doing everything that I could with the instructions given.  Nothing worked. So I called GoDaddy a couple of nights ago. I spoke with Jared, and he emailed me a GoDaddy to Blogger link that took care of everything with one click. It just transferred the CNames over instantly. Yay! I'm one happy blogger!!

Oh congrats! So was that something that you do via blogger or godaddy? I don't use Blogger or host w/godaddy but just in case someone else has the same prob that URL he gave you would be useful (if it's a public URL that is).

http://myrandomsampler.com/ works! But so does http://www.myrandomsampler.blogspot.com/ still. Shouldn't your blogspot URL 301 redirect to your new .com?

Another resource for other members moving from blogspot/blogger to a custom URL and you registered your domain through GoDaddy, I found this fabulous blog post from Wonder Forest that step by step w/screen shots this process w/Godaddy. I'm a huge fan of screen shots for things like this.
