  • Bitten Once Again By The Comparison Bug
    Not gonna lie, to say that I've had a lot on my mind these past couple of weeks has been an understatement. If any of you who are reading this and in into trying to have a social media presence, then you probably know the frustration that I feel when it comes to the lack of engagement. (Unless you are one of those who can post a picture on Instagram and get over 200-300 likes in an hour, and your photo continues momentum until it reaches over 800 likes). Me? I finally hit over 300 likes. I thought I had finally found the right consistency - the magic whatever it is.... to tank. I mean royally tank. And I was spending HOURS on Instagram trying my best to figure out what I'm doing wrong - what I should be doing different.And life on the home front lately hasn't been a walk in the park either. Between Hubby traveling a lot, a carbon monoxide scare, lack of sleep and the list goes on and on, I feel like I haven't been able to stay on top of everything. And well, spending HOURS trying to get my social media accounts where I'd like them to be, surely wasn't helping.So yesterday, as I took Blue Thunder out for the first time.   • And The Lingering Running Injury Continues
    *This post contains affiliate links. It's been over a week since I've been able to run. I thought that taking time off would magically fix all of my hip issues. WRONG that's W R O N G wrong. In fact, as I went to my physical therapy appointment this week, my PT asked me if I was limping. I said maybe? I don't even notice it anymore. This ongoing injury just keeps... well.... going. He said he saw me limping when I got out of the car. And yes, after I sit, I am usually in pain once I stand so I probably was.Hey, put on a positive note, I was able to pretty much pin point the pain spot. And my IT is inflamed from overcompensating for the hip issues. But we tried this patch type thing with a small battery electrical current with some meds on it. Don't ask me the name because I don't know what it is. Did it help? I don't know. I can still feel tenderness at the top of my hip. And I'm still limping when I stand and take a few steps.So, obviously I'm not running for another week. I still have my finger crossed for the Hershey 10K in 2.5 weeks, but I admit I'm nervous that it may not happen.I've been biking on the stationary bike, and rowing, and doing yoga and strength training. But I needed to get outside. I needed out on the trail.   • Injured But Not Out
    Just a quick update, after my short run last week, and the snow shoveling, my hip was very angry with me. I wasn't just having pain, I was limping with pain. So, I've decided I've got to give it some rest. That being said, I'm thinking maybe 2 weeks off of running. If I can power walk without pain, I might not go quite two weeks.   • When #Stella Came To Visit
    First of all, let me say, I feel like I've dropped the ball a little with writing. I've been struggling to find the rhythm of all, but I'll get there. This nagging hip injury has definitely thrown off my groove.But as I've said before, and I'll keep saying, life is a journey. And it gives us time and time again to learn from experiences. I keep repeating old habits, (doing too much too soon) but I'm also learning as I go.That being said, I ran 1 mile. I didn't feel pain, but I did feel some discomfort.   • It's Time To Stop Comparison In Its Tracks!
    I've posted about this in the past, but I need another reminder. Comparison - I've done it all my life. I've compared myself to others to see how I measured up. In most cases, it came from my lack of self confidence. And truthfully, after some self-examination, I realized it's still coming from the lack of self confidence. I want people to like me.Lately, my comparison issues has mainly been with social media - mainly blog stats and Instagram. I love Instagram. I do. I love how I can share my day through pictures (and words). But a glance at my Instagram account will often give you a visual of my day.But lately, I've been bogged down with stats, and jealously. There are people with far less followers (or more) than me that will get tons, and I mean tons of likes and comments and engagement on their photos. It's mind boggling. It's lead to hours of me trying to figure out what they are doing right and what I'm doing wrong. I've scrutinized my hasthtags.   • Oops I Did It Again - Too Much Too Soon
    Please note this post contains affiliate links. Shaking my head... seriously... ugh..... so this past Saturday I ran 4 uneventful miles. It was my first run in a long time, and my first 4 mile run in months.Sunday I rested.Monday, I did the legs day resistance training for the Bikini Body Guide app. Let me tell you it's an awesome workout. I struggled through some of it. By the end of the day I was starting to feel sore, but I didn't think much of it. I think it was the walking lunges and the step ups that did me in.Tuesday I wanted to do a 6 mile run. I was going to do an out and back. But I decided since it was so warm to stay close to home and do a 3 mile loop, stop at the house for water, and then go back out again. THANK GOODNESS I stayed close to home. At about a 1.5 miles of hills, I felt more than tenderness and it hurt to run. So I walked/at times limped my way back to the house.Wednesday I foam rolled, soaked, iced and even tried heat. By the end of the day and a long Epsom salt soak, it did feel some better.Thursday was physical therapy day. And I was still in pain to stand or walk (triple sigh). So he put me on the bike. Wow, I was sweating 2 minutes in. After 8 minutes on the bike, we did some of our usual stuff, but kept the exercises to a minimum.He checked my hip and surprisingly it was still in place!   • Saying Goodbye To My Obsession With Food
    Yeah... so last week I said that If I Need To Google It, I'm Not Eating It and that lasted about..... a day... yep... I'd say about 24 hours. Because the reality is, in my life is not all or nothing. Sure, I suppose I could pack us healthier snacks (and that's an area I'm trying to be more consistent with), but my reality is sometimes McDonald's happens. Hey just keeping it real. And sometimes so does a sub from a local convenience store or a slice of pizza. And then once I messed up, the all or nothing attitude reared its ugly head! And wow hello to disordered eating.   • If I Need To Google It I'm Not Eating It
    Well, I'm having some medical issues. I'm waiting to find out about the nodule on my thyroid, but I'm experiencing  a lot of joint pain and swelling. And I mean a lot. Some of the knuckles on my fingers have been 5 times the normal size. They are hot to touch, and I'm unable to bend them.I don't know what's going on with me, but I suspect it has a lot to do with what I'm putting in my body. I decided that's probably where I should really start anyway.Yep, I've added the sugar back, and I've noticed the joint pain is worse after I eat sugar. It's also worse after I eat processed food (which still could be sugar or a combo of several things). That being said, I've never truly cut out all processed foods (or food where I can't pronounce the words). Basically if I have to google it, I'm not eating it for the next two weeks.Honestly, I'm still pretty unsure about this decision as I type this. I've never done this before. I've wanted to sort of, but my family isn't known to eat tons of veggies and stuff. I just never have. I mean I like them ok, but well this would be a serious and I mean serious overhaul of my diet. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I eat a bag of chips a day.   • Are You Feeling Overwhelmed?
    The flu knocked me off of my feet literally. Hubby helped me with what he could around the house and with Lil Man. But I could feel the pressure of things piling up. My to-do list was becoming longer and longer as Lil Man and I were on the couch with fevers.Now that we are fever free and getting back into routine life, I woke up this morning feeling the oppressing feeling of being overwhelmed. So many things need to get done, and there is only so much of me to do it you know?We are still a little too germy for Church. Although we are fever free, Lil Man still has a lot of congestion and is taking tamiflu. I don't want to spread germs, or have him come in contact with more germs. So we are home today.     Just wanted to give you a quick update. I've been MIA this week because we have the flu. I've been sick since Sunday. I had no idea that chills and body aches could hurt so bad.     I have received a free bottle in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are mine and honest in nature.As you know, I do occasional product reviews when opportunities arise that interest me. Well, when I heard about the Square Clean Bottle, I was intrigued. And I wanted to give it a try.I'm so glad that I did. I know you are thinking, what's so special about a water bottle? Well, first of all this one is square - which I wasn't really sure about. I mean - who has a square water bottle? And I have to say I loved that it was square. It fit great in my cup holders in my car. It was easy to hold, and well, it didn't roll.     This week brought a  lot of testing, and thankfully some answers.This past weekend I ran (although I wasn't cleared to do so). The first day I ran on the treadmill, and that was okish. Then on Saturday, it was snowing and I couldn't resist a snowy run!   • Crush The Sugar Cravings With Dark Chocolate
    If you struggle with sugar like I do, and if the thoughts of cutting it out makes you break out in hives, I do have some tips that might help.First of all, I admit I'm still struggling with moderation. In fact, I'm planning on cutting sugary junk snacks (except for dark chocolate) for the next couple of weeks. Why? Because I'm drinking way too sugary drinks, eating too many donuts, candy bars and other sugary snacks. Sigh.. I know. But you know what, it's a journey, and it's a learning process. And, it can also be fun to experiment and find out what does or does not work. So, I'm not discouraged. I'm learning, and learning to me is progress. So, I reset, and then find my moderation. I can do this, and you can too if it's your desire to do so.And what I found when I cut out sugar last time (How I'm Going To Overcome Sugar Addiction) was that after a couple of days I really did crave dark chocolate. No seriously, it was bad. I tried a magnesium pill. I took Epsom salt baths, but as most of you know, I regularly take those. So what I wound up doing to ease the craving was actually go and buy Baker's Chocolate.  (affiliate link)And I took a bite and it was so horribly bitter ha. Yes, it's used for baking.   • Confession Friday The Scale And Me
    I put off going to the doctor for 6 months to a year. Why? Because I didn't want to weigh on the scale. Wait a minute, hear me out. I didn't want to weigh on the scale because I was afraid that the doctor would say something to me about me weight. But after being close to a year late for my gynecological exam, I knew that I needed to go. It was silly not to get regular check-ups because of my being afraid the doctor would harp on my weight.So last January, I went. And.. yep... the first thing he asked me was was I still running? I had gained about 20lbs in a year. The weight needed to come off. I was considered overweight now and the comments went on and on. I left the office feeling dejected. And I vowed to lose the weight. I was going to do this.And I did.... for the most part.. I dropped down to the 111 or so range.. still above my 105 but still a loss. And I was miserable and obsessed and began hiding to binge eat (no I didn't purge or develop bulimia, but I did develop very disordered eating). What issues that I had with food before were severely magnified after that doctor visit. What a failure I was for not losing the weight like the doctor had told me to do, I had to get to that golden number on the scale. I would be down a couple of pounds - victory. I'd weigh the next day and be up a pound - defeat. This went on and on until I decided that I was going to overcome my sugar addiction (How I'm Going To Overcome Sugar Addiction)And even then, after I gave up sugar I felt the need to weigh myself. I mean, wasn't the number on the scale the determination of my self worth?   • What To Do When You Are Side-lined By Injury
    Step 1, grab a spoon. Step 2, grab a gallon of ice cream and find a comfy spot ... just kidding. Although I admit this briefly sounded like a good idea. But since I'm trying not to stress eat, well we all know this isn't the solution.As most of you know, I've found myself on the injured list again. (Why You Need To Listen To Your Body). And with each injury, I learn something new.This time, it's my hip, but it stems from underlying problems. My back and pelvis are out of whack which is usually the result of poor form along with weak muscles. And honestly, I'm tired of finding myself here.   • It's All About Perspective
    If you are waiting for my weekly weigh-in, it's probably not going to happen. I don't want to step on the scale. Because the hard cold reality is that number dictates my mood. A number on a metal box will either make me feel happy or sad or a little of both. And I don't want to give that number that kind of control.And I'm currently not looking at measurements either or exactly how my clothes fit. Because the truth there is that they aren't loose or falling off of me. They are however fitting me different. And when I look in the mirror I am seeing a stronger version of myself. I'm seeing tiny muscles emerge that weren't there before.
